Woohoo! Australia beat Uruguay to make it to the finals in the World Cup! After 31 years of not making the qualifying rounds! Time to celebrate!

I hope the football fans of Uruguay are feeling contrite after their ridiculously bad sportsmanship that they showed the Australian team, when they were in Montevideo. I've never heard of such crappy sporty behaviour. I imagine that might be the norm for inter South American sport, well I know how the Brazillians and Argentinians are, and the Serbs and Croations, but I didn't think the Aussies deserved to be spat on as they entered the arena!

Anyway, that's about as sporty as you'll ever hear me on this page! I'm looking forward to the parties during the following matches..

tu abuela insane
contrite?? noooo, thank you
What you call crappy sporty behaviour here is called "garra charrua"
And look who is talking about "ridiculously bad sportsmanship" the socceros were who wanted to kill el Chengue as soon as he entered the "cancha"
And the next time you will see! :P
You were lucky that Paolo Montero, Forlan and Viera were hurt.
And you say that we are insane when you didn't know any Peñarol's footballer, If you had seen them, you would know what is really called garra charrua.
Si hubiese habido alguno the peñarol ya era masacre the canguros

we got ripped off, 3 clear penalties in the first game, and a clear red card in the second game that wasn't called, all that and the aussies still needed a penalty shootout to beat us.

I feel sick to my stomach.

Australian don't even like soccer that much, ..stick to rugby and cricket.

Hehe, you're on! have you ever actually sat through a cricket match? They can go on for 4 DAYS!!
But yeah, Australians are generally not into (non Australian rules) football, if you look at our players most of them are imports from other great footy nations.. there's probably a few Uruguayans in there too! But I think the reason there hasn't been much support here is because we've traditionally been really crap at it! It's been all over the tv here, so I guess it will get Aussies more involved.
Hehe, I certainly plan to be drinking and cheering at the next match!
..we'll have to have a re-match grudge match someday! Now THAT will be a game.. why no like Kangaroos, they're cooler than armadillos (what is the national animal of Uruguay anyway?)

our national animal is the Cow, just like india.
But unlike india, we don't worship it, we slaughter it, throw it on a grill and have it for dinner.

is it true you guys really eat kangaroo?

anyway, I still can't belive we lost,...but austratlia didn't beat us, FIFA beat us,...They didn't want us there, and they got their wish.

I'm still sick to my stomach.

Wow! the world of global football and FIFA is so complex! hehe, yes Australians do eat Kangaroos - AND Emus. They are our two national animals and yep, some say they taste like chicken.
What's "la celeste"? You guys sound like you feel pretty ripped off about all of this. Maybe you should come to Australia and join our team!!
Hey I've been reading all about Paraguay, and according to this book, it makes out Ascuncion to be some wild west hick town and that Paraguayans are a nation of crazy people. What do Uruguayans think of them?
Hey, we should get on the msn chat thingo. Let me know if you're keen and I'll send you my msn address!
..and heya Emma! I miss ya, when you getting your ass over to West Australia to hang out with me again?!

Paraguayans are retarded, they can barely speak. I can't understand what the hell they are saying. Their literacy rate is real low, they are some truly ignorant people (probably not all of them, maybe)

But they do have a good soccer team. They are are too ignorant to have all the political drama that goes on off the field, the drama that we have to deal with. They just go out and play.

I think its time we shut down all the schools in Uruguay. Soccer is more important.

jesus grant what have you started here !!!!! yes i'd love to come visit but my life is too busy. ha some 14yrs spotty Melbourner came up to me on Dame st the other day + asked me to buy liquor for him!! i told him I'd been to Perth but he was oddly disparaging about it, sheesh, whats wrong with the sunniest city in the World I ask you??!!

Ya, even though i've spent a third of my life living in Sydney, a lot of east coasters bag out Perth as wild-westers (see earlier comments about how some see Paraguayans the same way)! It's sort of funny, Perth is a conservative place for the most part - although i've met more swingers here than i ever did anywhere else! ..unless thats just the lifestyle i'm living here(!) I suppose it's the same kinda thing as Dubliners vs. Cork-ites!

Oh yes, 'ripped off' means that you feel something wasn't fair, someone stole the game, the other person cheated etc.. I really want to learn Spanish someday i tells ya!

Heya Girl,

Australia is going to get SLAMMED by Brazil! What tips can a footbal guru like yourself suggest? I think Australia will need a LOT of support for this game!
How are you going? We haven't spoken for a while.
