now here goes my little monologue:
the poem i put on my blog is this one, in case you are curious. i think the us and uk are fighting an evil ideology. terrorism is evil. but like you said, the US foreign policy can lack of some congruence. yes, i admit it. the US over the past decades has made alliances with people like pinochet. but of course they had major goals. when communism was spreading, the US allied with extreme right dictators. but as soon as they could, they would cut the ties. i already posted an interesting article about this, i will search my blog and give you the link.
i'm not sure if i agree with you that bush was beeing absolutist. ex, even though islam is the common ground to terrorism, he's always saying islam is the religion of peace.
and you cannot deal with someone that kills, beheads innocent people with words. that person will only understand one language - violence. psycopaths have no moral or conscience. bush is not perfect, he made some mistakes when iraq was invaded (neglected the boarders, assumed that he wouldn't need the national guard and the baath party to maintain order), but he's not the enemy. you can see major democratic changes in the middle east, since iraq was invaded. and we all know that democracy is the best thing that can happen to a country. democracy will crush the terrorists. we cannot let islam's dark ages spread.
major steps in iraq now. thursday will be parliamentary elections day. al qaeda is getting more and more isolated since sunnis are now understanding they must participate in the democratic process.
two good things about bush: he's stubborn and he couldn't care less about popularity. he does what he has to do. if people like michael moore *commie, cough* ruled the world, we all would be living in some sort of cuba or north korea.

thank you for the link. it was an interesting reading! it had more articles regarding the riots, and it was really an eye opener. we have large african communities in lisbon, and they live in ghettos filled with drug dealers, and other kind of criminals. instead of protecting and cleaning their neighbourhoods, they consent that gangs have safe heaven in those ghettos. i'm afraid lisbon will soon have the same problems as sydney. multiculturalism can be dangerous, ghettos are a bad idea (having thousands of families with low incomes living in a small area), and the "poor you" policy regarding minorities just trigger the bomb.
