Some low-res mobile phone pics of Perth

Last night Jessica and I went down to Cottesloe Beach to make a farewell toast to Hermione. The beach was a golen colour, and we drank a cocktail each at La Tropicana as the sun set. This pic was of the view from where we sat.

I also took this pic when walking to the bus station after work. In the late 80s boom virtually an entire city block was demolished in order to build three large (phallic shaped) office buildings. One was built and then the boom-bubble burst, leaving the project unfinished and this massive gaping hole in the middle of the city. That was 1987 (or maybe '88 or '89). For the last 15 years this hole has gradually returned to its pre-city past, and native reeds and plants have returned to inhabit it. It is now a swamp, with a post-apocalyptic look about it. This part of the city was built on reclaimed land on the banks of the Swan River. I think it's kinda cool to have this in the middle of our modern city. I have this recurring idea that it'd be great to have a concert in there, with a band and/or dj set up on that platform..

Pics from my mobile

I finally found out how to send pics from my mobile phone to an email address. I will try and post some pics of my life and my city as often as possible. The other night, my ol' mate Reed came to town from Chicago to see his mates and family. He seems to have become the man on the poker table and we were up all night throwing the cards around. I'm not really the gambling type, but it is pretty cool to sit around all night drinking, listening to cranking tunes and pretending i'm James Bond from time to time. Next time we really should get the cigars along, to live up to the standards of the cliche! How's that setting? - we're sitting in a shed, with two fridges, an official poker table and terrible lighting, hehe, what a hoot!

RIP Hermione

I was going to write about having a great Christmas, as it was a good Christmas with all the family there and lots of fun was had! I will write about that in a little while - but last night our little Rat Hermione died. She was our first rat and she was about 3 years old, so she was elderly in rat years. She had been sick for a few months, but Jess always diligently cleaned her and took her to the vet everytime she looked like she needed attention. I've found this pic that I had posted in March from when Hermi and Cupcake ran riot on Shelley Beach, it's a good one of her. I'll look through my pic archives and post some other cool photos of her online.
It was fun, farewell sweet ratly Hermi-Herms. I'm sure you're wriggling your way around Ratty-Heaven now!

Bummer, I don't get to take a break from work between Christmas and New Year's Eve. I guess it's not too bad, but I've just thought about it, and other than that super quick week I had in Sydney a few months back, I haven't had a holiday in two years. I know I'm the new guy at work, so I won't be expecting a holiday for a while, but I really need to get away. This year has been a long, hard unhappy year for me, and I am looking forward to much better times next year. Anyone got any party plans for NYE? I'm thinking that some cocktails on the beach with good friends and staying it out until sunrise is the best option. If it's a warm night then there's nothing funkier than a beach party!

Here's a snapshot of my office today. Pretty exciting stuff, huh! Well, don't stress that I've become super boring since I've entered the world of the suit, I am gathering up old diary entries and as soon as I next get on my home computer I will start writing up the next stage of my travels. Many moons ago I started to write about my adventures, I have since been distracted with work and a busy life. You know how it is, after a stressy day of work the last thing I want to do is get on another computer!
But now that I'm saving some bucks again slowly, it means the getting ready to travel again machine is cranking into gear.. Just thinking about is getting me excited! Southeast Asia is still on my mind for a holiday, but my thoughts are for a long term working overseas plan.. hmm.
Wow, Christmas is nearly here. Crapoly, now I gotta get thinking about what to get people!
* sigh * I am in need of some excitement. I'm helping organise a surprise party for this Saturday night, will tell more about that later..
